Default vinci power products chip

having obx headers and cat back installed on my 91....i ordered a chip from Marc Haiback to handle the extra air fuel..

My mechanic calls me and says when he went to swap out the chip he said it looked like there was an aftermarket one in there already...

i dropped an email to vinci power products asking about this chip.Anybody ever heard of these? I thought the car was bone stock...

Take the chip out. Some of us can erase them so u could use it again. In fact, I'll buy it.

Yes I spoke to marc about it and my mechanic will give him a call Tommorow morning..

I did Google vincy products and emailed them...They did respond by saying the chip is tuned either on the dyno or mass produced for a car with a similar set up..
I'm guessing it's set up for a stock ZR1..( I guess that's why I noticed the fans coming on early)..

I will be the first to admit that I don't know too much about electronics in the LT-5..
I'm pretty much old school since I have owned my 73 for 12 years now.....Marc said that it doesn't matter what chip is in there now it just will be disconnected...The mechanic who is working on my car says- no,they have to work together...

I don't know....I was under the assumption you are replacing the chip with one that is calibrated for your set up....Hence-Headers and exhaust...

if the mechanic won't change the chip you can drive home with the one you have now, then change to marc's. even if the other one was dynoed for that car, marc's will be better, no doubt

Sounds like Marc sent you a chip w a "piggyback" board. The board will bypass the original chip and connect w the knock sensor circuit.

Your computer uses a information in the chip (mem-cal) to control the spark and fuel. The 'data' is normally called a calibration and is what Marc and others change to match engine changes to the 'data' in the calibration. There are 2 methods generally used to make this calibration available to the ECM. One method is to 'reprogram' the stock chip. This method requires some special equipment and is some cumbersome as the earlier chips had to be 'erased' with UV light then the new calibration is burned to the old chip. Current technology allows use of newer chips that can be erased with the same tools that burn the data on the chip. In order to use these newer chips you have to unsolder the old chip and solder the new one in place or use a modified carrier that plugs in to the ecm and allows the new chip to piggyback on the existing prom by bypassing the stock chip. In this way calibration chip can work with the non programmable chips on the carrier.
