Re: Installed No Flex Frame Stiffener Bar System
I really think these should have been a part of the ZR-1 package. The motor has so much HP that hammering the throttle twists the frame and causes the positraction to react further amplifying the problem. I believe this sets in motion a back and forth momentum in the chassis that prevents low speed hookup. Once the car finally dampens this motion it then can really start to roll. JMHO,
Tyler

Re: Installed No Flex Frame Stiffener Bar System
Fairly new rubber, two years old, but new found power. Ported plenum and IH.

Re: Installed No Flex Frame Stiffener Bar System
Tyler,
So you think these would help the ZR "bite" better at the track? And w more power, getting it to the ground gets more problematic. Is that why the ZR appears to accelerate stronger in the second half of the 1/4?

Re: Installed No Flex Frame Stiffener Bar System
Jeff,
With your black ZR-1 the mounting bolts show up. You could just paint them black ,or install 49th street rockers to hide the front and rear mounting bolts. I drag race my Zr-1 and my 60ft. times avg. 1.73 to 1.78 , 1/4 mile times avg 11.65 to 11.72 @ 118- 120 mph. I might have to look into frame stiffener bar system. Re: Installed No Flex Frame Stiffener Bar System
I ordered the no flex frame stiffener for my 1990 auto eq. zr-1 on Dec.
17. 2013. installation was completed on the 21 of Dec on a 4 post lift.It took a little longer then what the instructions said. Front brackets took about 20 mins to install. The rear brackets took a bit longer because i have DRM c4 trailing arm brackets installed. the lower dog leg had to be moved to gain access to the lower trailing arm bracket bolt. After installing the rear frame stiffener bracket and bolt, torque the assembly to 80 lbs. The lower dog leg was reinstalled and ride height checked. Without adjusting the frame stiffener i jacked up the car at the right front (about 5in off the ground) i could not open the doors. lowered the car tighten the frame stiffener bars and raised the right front again, i could open the door. Took the z for a ride Sunday the 22nd, car felt more stable without body flex. I drag race my z and have pulled 60ft times of 1.73 to 1.79 running 11.69 to 11.76 @ 117-119 mph. Next test and tune will be Jan 4, 2014, I'll you know how this works out. Merry Christmas John Becker member #0115 |
