Pull the console shift plate top. its possible the wire behind the socket is loose. Also mine tends to rotate the housing with causes intermittent contact. Try turning the lighter socket a quarter of a turn to the right or left. May fix the problem

i had a cig lighter socket in a used car i bought that wasn't working and it was because of excessive scum and corrosion in the socket preventing good contact points to complete the electrical circuit. this happends alot with cig lighter sockets that get used alot by smokers. so if the socket looks corroded, a good cleaning of the socket could fix the problem. i know you already fixed your issue but i thought i would add this in for anyone else having this issue later.
