Re: BG 2013 Thursday JVD BBQ
Before anybody jumps to any assumptions about the club.
I do a BBQ at BG and feed over 100 people and don't run out of food you don't have to sign up or pay just show up and eat. On my dime,i can't even right it off, i do it for fun. To my understanding someone wants to get paid to advertise there business and get paid twice at that, once with my membership fees (2-3 times over the registry rules) and seond pay to eat. I've been to a few shops BBQ's they never asked for a dime they do it to advertise there business they don't profit from the food. Do the BBQ for your business and the love of the hobby. Some choices in life are easy do it or don't. Pete

Re: BG 2013 Thursday JVD BBQ
Pete,
Besides what you and Bob G. have done at BG, another case in point is Marc's Annual BBQ. He's making an investment in his business and showing his gratitude for the support from the ZR-1 community.

I was referred to this thread and wanted to comment. Years ago we began the BB Q when it was just a few guys bench racing. As the years went by, the BBQ became a lot more popular. The actual cost for 100 is right at $2,000 by the time it’s all done. Plates, propane, silverware, condiments, drinks, ice, napkins, foil, lots of food prep stuff, etc., not to mention shutting down for a couple of days of business (unless we’re working on your cars). In the past, many of you contribute and helped make it feasible to do this and we are very honored to be able to give you guys a nice party to kick off the event. Besides, I enjoy the chance to meet new and old faces. You might remember the 20th ZR-1 Anniversary was a very well attended event. We had over 200 attend and we only ran out of food after everyone had seconds and thirds. One of my girls was mad because she wanted to take home a plate and she said there wasn’t even any juice left in the bottom of the pans! Anyway, the Registry began contributing in 2010. They gave us $300. Actual cost of the event was $1980.00. We don’t do this for business promotion as we have been involved with ZR-1 service and repair since day 1 and we are already very well-known in the Corvette community. We do this for you guys and we usually have some place to invest any leftover proceeds to benefit our members. In the past we supported our troops in Afghanistan, this year we are hoping to purchase NCM bricks to commemorate those buddies of ours who are no longer with us. (But that all depends on you guys and your contributions.) Last year we were told to prepare for 50-60 and we cooked for 75-80. BUT, over 100 showed up and those who came late, didn’t eat. It was embarrassing to say the least. And it was not fair for those who did contribute but were a little late. Some arrived in pickup trucks loaded with guys and I have no clue who they were. So, I decided to organize the BBQ a little more efficiently by offering a registration/RSVP list. Registrants will receive a goody bag and wrist band, and they will be assured a place in the food line (and there will be plenty of food). There is always music and entertainment and depending on what we have in here, we will also find a few other things for you all to see or do. Maybe a surprise guest or two… I was not aware the new Registry board had decided not to contribute to the event until the new Treasurer emailed and informed me. I don't know the reason why. Given the current economic climate, and all the new burdens to small business, we hope we can continue to bring you guys over for a good time for years to come. So go to our website and make sure and register and come enjoy great steaks (or chicken breast) and some good southern hospitality!

Re: BG 2013 Thursday JVD BBQ
As the treasurer of the ZR-1 Net Registry and not "new", I did email JVD to see how the Registry could help with his event. I was hearing conflicting stories as to how this event would be ran.
I never did say that the Registry wasn't going to provide support, I just need to know how the Registry could...JVD told me he would let me know... With that said...I fully support his event and plan on registering and encourage others to do so. With this RSVP method, JVD's event will be assured to be a success. Thanks for doing this Jim.
