Default Bright days driving into the sun

When I drive my 91 z with the orange light and digital dash into the sun when it's overhead there are times when looking down at the dash to see what speed I'm going I simply cannot see the readout of speedo or tach. Not that it's normally a problem but it's a lot like seeing the back of a digital camera with led display on a bright day, just about impossible. My preference is to drive without the bronze targa top in or the red lined top as I like the extra headroom and nature but with it appears to come this digital age phenomonon.

I did searches for glare and glare reduction and found nothing.

Is this a given you live with or is there some solution to help this?

Presumably I could turn the headlights on and get dashboard lights on to help highlight and minimize glare but it seems silly and takes away from the streamlining as well during the day.

Thanks for the assistance from your experience.

I'm just about done with my little new to me punch list....radio rf speaker amp due here with new radio face to replace scratched one tomorrow then pulling the center trim to check the shift boots and do a little light sound deadening and radio and my list is done.

The solution from GM was the 94-96 interior with white faced gauge ink and a dimmer switch that worked all the time and not just when the lights are on.

it isn't just you- I went from a 95 LT1 coupe to my 91 ZR-1 and I noticed many details that were improved over the years.

I find the reflection of the dash in the windshield even more annoying.

yes to the dash reflection onto the underside of the windshield and yes, will try polarized clip ons to my photogray type eyeglasses which I wear. Maybe that will help both issues. Worth a try. My windshield still has the lined original glass though you can see it will one day fail around the edges.....too bad we don't have a heads up display to put up there instead...that in the later model cars is cool......no aftermarket thing for that?

Hmmm.....Let's see. The GM factory C5 HUD gets it's data from the Class II data stream. How could we get a Class II data stream in our cars?

Think, think, think, think. Hmmmm.

Oh wait...I've got it!!! The LS1 PCM has one of those new-fangled data streams that would supply the correct data to the HUD.

Anyone know what C5 HUD units are going for on Ebay?

Now if I can just find that Sawzall and shoe horn.

Jep

Sounds like it's time to come up with a different dash pad with antireflective properties and a cutout for HUD...

Is it a dash mounted unit that reflects above? I tried one of those. Was not impressed as the unit died in a couple of months. Gave a compass reading as well. Relied on a tint patch to get the job done

My '90 windshield has a rectangular un-shaded spot just left of center, at the base.

Anyone know what this is? (no owner's manual ) Light sensor opening?
