What they fail to see is that danger of dangers, a government no longer responsive to the people. Without that balance of an armed citizenry why would any government not subvert the will of the people?

Of course they would.

Some thoughts (which I hesitate on this forum anymore) .......in liberal country having lots of armed citizenry in a crowded mall for example may be good and may not be so good. Some armed citizenry do not shoot so good

The second amendment is great in regard to its intended purpose but now the Government has aircraft and nuclear bombs..........

Our society is moving toward armed guards for the principal solution while letting the citizenry practice there second amendment rights in all places where they are in fact the first responders (which is ALL other places). We now have armed guards in banks, congress, court houses, air ports, many schools, some buses, gun shows, churches (in our relatively small church our minister has an armed guard within 20 feet at all times), concerts, athletic events, many armed guards on the playing field at the 49ers games during half time, all major sporting events.

Where there are armed guards the citizenry does not have a need to carry necessarily. In most places where there are armed guards citizenry cannot carry which is fine with me but I am loaded for bear at home and in my car (while in South Dakota....not California) and other places for varmints of all kinds just like Fully Vetted suggests

So for me.....the situation is well taken care of (you cannot prevent all crime) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) can quit with the fire arms ban approach as Fully Vetted and myself can take care of ourselves (and others) where armed guards are not there to protect the citizenry (we are the first responders).

Now.....please do not shoot at the messenger here

You know when I was young; I remember seeing armed Police Officers in all the Banks. Plus there was an armered police booth on one corner of an intersection that had three banks.
The police booth is still there but it is no longer manned!

I absolutely agree, Cliff. The need is not always there. But when I am the only one responsible for the welfare and safety of me and my family I'm going to have something on me or within reach that levels the playing field so to speak.

In general, criminals would rather take the low hanging fruit. They want the easy score. Armed citizens reduce the easy score.

There are over 300 million registered guns in this country. And that's just the registered ones. I have...several. Only one of which is registered, but not to me. My Dad has close to 200 of which only the full auto ones are registered (federal requirement along with his class 3 license). So, the task of collecting guns is never going to happen. Or, at least it will never happen successfully. Where they may slow us down is in the sell of ammo. It's already through the roof and if the Government starts limiting the production of ammo and bans the purchase of ammo reloading equipment and supplies it may get interesting. Until we adapt.

I own 2 registered handguns and have a permit to carry. Our right to bear arms should not be taken away. I believe there's nothing wrong w/ owning shotguns, rifles, and handguns, legally (criminals should not have the right to bear arms). But an AK-47 w/ a 30 round banana clip is meant for nothing but killing as many humans ,as quickly as possible, it's a weapon designed for the battlefield. I do believe weapons like that should be a lot harder to obtain, if at all, then they are right now. JMO.

I'm not about to say how many and what kind of fire arms I have. For anyone to do so puts a target on yourself. I received my first conceal carry some 14yrs ago.
An assault weapon indeed has more uses the simply mowing down people. It can be a kick to shoot. It is entertaining. Same as a high performance car can be to drive. There are other much more profound possible uses but that one will do for now.

The speed limit at max is what 75mph (maybe 85 in TX). Why should any car be allowed to have over 100hp on the public roads?
High performance cars like that have been responsible for way more needless deaths than all mass shootings combined. And dare I say more children run over than any mass shooting.
Lets ban all or highly regulate or make it harder to own a high performance car?

It's just not in my nature to want to punish or restrict the whole class for a few out of control students. It's not only short sighted but wrong tactically and strategically.

Just food for thought and only an opinion.

Yes fully automatic are fun to shoot, but you can rent them at a shooting range (which is where I shot one). You don't need to own one for that thrill. I actually find skeet shooting a lot more fun, though. I understand the point though that, even if fully automatic machine guns are banned. The nut jobs will find some other way to take mass amount of lives, like suicide bombing for instance. I just wouldn't be upset if they did ban the machine guns or at least make them harder to get. That's just me though. People are passionate about this topic on both sides, and have valid arguments for both. I believe the majority are in the middle.
