Default Cold air induction

Anybody use this before? They claim up to 20 hp gain. Is it worth it over the stock unit and any cutting needed to install? It is on sale at $339.99 at corvetteguys.com with free shipping.

Thanks

There was a discussion regarding this a few years ago.
Concensus was that the stock filter area was more than sufficient to provide air volume needed for our LT5.
Also, although not a major concern for our LT5 since our LT5 does not use MAF (mass air flow sensor?) to measure incoming air, those that has MAF can be thrown off due to oil build up on MAF sensor - migration from air filter oil to wire in the MAF.
If I were to spend money, my preference would be to get the stainless steel air box from George.
20 hp gain with this air filter, I believe, is too optimistic.

Hey Charlie

The key part of their claim is "up to" so is that 0/1/2... most people seem to install them because they like the look as much as any proven gains. I had one, never installed it though. I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. I left mine with David last time I was down there, I think he sold it but you might check with him in case he still has it.

I'm sure others will chip in with their own experiences.

Dave

When I removed mine and installed an open filter type unit, my car ran like a completely different car. I would NEVER put the Claw back on my car. Like day and night.

This was my experience only. Others may have experiencd somethinig to the contrary.

Thanks for the feedback. What open filter type is recommended?

Thanks Dave,
Am sure David has sold it. Like the look but would rather have good performance.

I think this is the "open filter" solution.

This is from Corvette Central but you can probably find similar ones at the other main vette parts suppliers.

Actually I just realized, I have one of these too - also not yet installed lol

I have one of the stainless steel units that was offered last Spring, from the WAZOO area. I use a stock fram filter.

I bought a spare air filter front bezel and cut it out like this AND added a Corsa exhaust with a DRM chip. Gained 30 documented HP gain.
