Shop to work on our ZR-1 in Upstate NY
Does anyone have suggestions on a shop that I can trust working on our 91 ZR-1? My father left the car to me after he passed away (we've had a ton of great memories together with the car) and it has sat in the garage for a year or so. I just got it out, inspected, etc and found that there's an oil leak (I downloaded Haibeck's "Finding and Fixing Oil leaks on the LT5 Engine), and think it's the oil pan gasket or the pressure regulator.
I'd like the car gone through by someone who knows the car/LT5's well. Any suggestions/experience would be greatly appreciated. I did a brief search and didn't find a lot on this. Thank you! |

Re: Shop to work on our ZR-1 in Upstate NY
I am about 4 hours away from Long Island. I live near the Syracuse area. I just had the radio fail (as in when you turn it on, it does the high squeal/buzz), I gotta pull that out and figure out how to fix that one. Not that I don't love the sound of the motor, but on the highway (and below the speed limit) I'd love to have some CD's.

That noise is likely your amplifiers (typical issues for all C4's) Dr Don is the fix. (google Dr Don, bose, corvette and you will get the contact info for that fix) As far as the oil leak... Are you sure where it is coming from? David |

Hi,
I live in Syracuse and would be happy to help you with your ZR-1. Was your father Brian Carey with a '91 white Lingenfelter modified top end; if so, I'm sorry to hear about his passing. I can recommend Doug at Reymore's Chevy in Central Square; he is a ZR-1 certified mechanic. I also would be happy to look at your car before going that route. Dimitri D. Re: Shop to work on our ZR-1 in Upstate NY
I'm Tom. I'm a ZR-1 - a- holic, and I'm addicted. Have 90 FSM and scanner w/software, and go bag is in the Z. Soooo, lets make a weekend out of it! I'm ready to travel. Just tell me when, hopefully before the snow flies so I can use the Z!
Just remove the front braces that go from under the motor mounts to the cross member that holds the rack and you can get to the front bolts. No worries, the motor mounts are on tabs just above the braces you will be r&r'ing. You may want to look closely at the cam covers. My Bro's Z is leaking from there and it drove us in circles as we thought it was the pan also. Just saying.... Vette Drs really doesn't prefer to do C4's any longer, let alone ZR-1's. I got that straight from Carman at last year's winery run. Tom
