Default OBX Install Minor Issues

Test fitting the headers today and only had two small issues.

1) Need a O2 sensor extension for the passenger side. Got one...Thanks Ted

2) #1 tube making contact with steering shaft. Need to dimple a tad!

After a good nights sleep, I have a thought! Wonder if I can loosen the single nut on each motor mount perch and pry the motor over enough to clear it. Just need to see how much room I have between the passenger header and the frame. I seem to recall about a half inch while I was test fitting them yesterday.

Marc Haibeck sells O2 extensions for a reasonable price.

My Jeal headers contact the steering shaft. I improved (though did not cure) the situation by using a couple of alignment shims under the driver's side motor mount. Loosen the lower mount bolts, jack up driver's side, slip shims in, tighten bolts, drive car to let mounts settle.

I did not cure the issue; on right turns the shaft still rubs on the #1 primary tube. I plan to add another shim the next time I have the car up in the air again.

Lifting was not an option! I dropped the angle braces and the mounts are all the way to the right in the slots, so no more adjustment that way. I was able to dimple the tube, well actually more of a crease than a dimple, and all is good.

Glad to to hear you got it sorted out. These cars must have some production variations. Interesting that mine bolted up w/ no rubbing against steering shaft.

Shrek, did you dimple the header tube while installed on the motor? Or did you remove and dimple it?

I marked it, removed it, then creased it using a press brake at the shop where I work.

So...how do they perform? I want to do the same for my '91 Z.

Won't know for a couple of weeks. Soon as it's back on the ground and running, we're going straight to the dyno. I'll post my impressions then!
