People had asked if I can get Plenums PCd in the past, used a PC guy to do a Silver Sparkle at a customers request....pics vs stock Plenum
The color isn't really done justice in the pics its lighter than stock some sparkle but not overblinged...has a dark tone at some angles... ![]() ![]() ![]() Coolant tube on top of new stock plenum for contrast: ![]()

Powder coating is the only way to go, IMO. I have a friend that owns a PC shop and does all of my PC for restorations. Paint is simply a thing of the past for me.
You can't use clear PC on an intake though. It will turn yelow, eventually, from what I have experienced.

I like that it is subtle, but it is distinct!

I was suprised at the effort it takes to PC
1)Tape off all gasket surfaces with Gorilla Tape; have to cut precisely **plenum mgasket surfaces both sides **TB face on plenum **DIS surface **4 surfaces for IH **Air horn face **Coolant tube surfaces 2)media blast 3)Clean Parts and degrease 4)Tape off all gasket surfaces with high temp tape; have to cut precisely 5)Powdercoat 6)Bake/Cure I am guessing most places charge $500 or more for doing all of it, a wheel is very simple vs something with gasket surfaces and runners.....keep in mind I had to drive back and forth to pick the stuff up between stages to tape off....

Lee,
I know from my own experience its a lot of work just to remove the crappy stuff GM originally put on. I've had three PC shops look at coating the top end components Jeff mentioned above, including the cam covers and stripping the old coating off, and all quoted around $600-$650 which seems reasonable to me given the effort, equipment, and material involved. If its not prepped properly, using the right materials and equipment, you are in for a valley of tears experience.

Prepping is KEY to PC anything. I always have my parts sandblasted with a pretty gritty sand media. I do all frames/suspensions and associated parts, including wheels. Anything black gets PC. Even new fuel tanks with clear PC.
