Did a NYPD Corvette ZR-1 ever really exist?

Well, another weekend of unpacking and finally got to the ZR-1 collectibles and forgot I had shipped this one.



The light bar broke off during shipment and needs to be reglued, but otherwise okay.

Was there such a thing as a real NYPD Corvette ZR-1 or just fake die cast models they made? When googling I found a youtube video of a NYPD Z06 diecast 1:18 scale and maybe just toys to sell only.

There's really only two ways departments get cars like this..the manufacturer donates it as PR to 'take a bite out of crime' or for similar youth programs or it was a drug seizure type of deal... I'd say it is possible, but you'd think there would be lots of photo documentation if it did exist.

Yeah, probably just an idea for a toy and looking at all the images available in yahoo, google, etc. there are a bunch of Corvette police cars mostly to promote awareness about drugs, etc. geared toward the youth programs. I was just curious and never thought about until now when putting into the glass case. Thanks for your thoughts.

Trust me, that ZR1 never saw "Duty" in the State of Michigan. It was all for PR.
