nick in valve

When putting the heads together noticed this:



small nick in valve, I assume from when the engine ingested a small screw, any thoughts if this is a concern....valve is not bent. I assume it will not be an issue

I've no specific info on valve shanks specifically, but eliminating sharp edges, i.e., smoothing or rounding, is SOP for crack deturants for engine blocks and sleeve edges, and the leading edge on aircraft propellers too, for that matter.

So, if you hafta use that valve, then smoothing the divot so as to remove any edges would be in kind with what is done in some other situations where cracking is at issue.

I think I would get another valve first, if at all possible. JMO

If that nick doesn't pass thru the seal, that's probably usable, and I probably would on some 200 hp engine, but I too would try to find a replacement given the attention to detail you have into the project so far.

I agree with Paul. What is the cost of a valve to all you have done and will do. Just put in a fresh valve and move on. That mark will be bugging you forever, if not.

From an ROI standpoint, no question. Get another one. Just not worth it.
