Accel Fuel Injectors, HELP!
Have just purchased the Accel 150121 fuel injectors for my '90 from Summit Racing Equipment.
This is what came. The blue tip looks like it comes off pretty easily, but it appears that the injector is a good 1/8 to 1/4 inch longer than the standard GM Multecs. I'm a little worried that they'll interfere with the valves. These DO NOT look like the ones that were posted on the CF. TomC '90ZR1 #792

Re: Accel Fuel Injectors, HELP!
Tom,
I did a search of Summit's parts by engine & came up with only one "by application" P/N MSD-2010, MSD injectors. The Accel's seem to be universal fit types. I would not think that those Accel's are gonna interfear with the intake valves...if I'm visualizing our 90 I/H's correctly...slightly inboard of the air passage & at a slight angle to the center line of the block. But I maybe incorrect as it has been a while for me on the r&r injectors job & I'm pleading senior citizen memory lapse. Heck, I used RC's and I can't remember what they looked like exactly! In short I guess what I'm saying is I can't see how any replacement injector could be long enough to intrude even to the 2* butterfly....that's a loooong injector. However, maybe Uly or ZFactor or Jeff or Bob will see this and make a statement to throw some light our way....or maybe call up Marc Haibeck or Gordon...could be worth it for the answer. I know Aurora40 did a thing with different injectors and an O-ring change to make later OE type injectors replace the OE 90-91 type injectors on the primary side. Sorry man, that's as much as I can contribute....not much, I know! Tom

Re: Accel Fuel Injectors, HELP!
Where is it longer? Is it longer between the o-rings? That might not be good as it might mean the fuel rail can't sit down as far as it's suppsed to.
But if it's just a longer pintle part, I doubt it would hurt anything. I guess it could block up the passage a bit more though. If they are normal injectors, you'll probably need a different o-ring set for the primaries since they seat way up on the body of the injector, not on the bottom. Can you post a picture of them next to a stock injector or something?

Re: Accel Fuel Injectors, HELP!
Update to the fuel injectors:
Summit had sent the "Old Style" injectors. I asked them to check their inventory and today on my doorstep was a box from Summit with the "New Style". Yay! While I was waiting for Summit to do something, I ordered a set from Atlantic Speed (Thanks, Uly for the info) and they should be arriving tomorrow or Friday. Originally, I was only going to replace the primaries, now I'll be doing all of them. I've been told that the "Old Style" would have worked, but that the "New Style" have a smoother idle because they don't use a "Pintel" style injector, rather they have a Bosh style, similar to the original Multec's without the problems with shorted coils. I should get time on Friday evening to install the injectors and do a couple of dry runs on re-installing the plenum. I want to be sure that all the connectors and fittings go back where they should before I commit myself and the new gaskets to a torque down and test fire. Wish me luck! TomC '90ZR1 #792

Good luck Tom, as I for 1 will be watching to see how yours turn out. I was gonna go w/the RC's when the time comes, but if the Accel's work out....let us know how it goes.
