New Owner In Missouri
Hello, I purchased a 1993 Artic White/Black ZR-1 this week and I really love the car! I searched for months to find this car and I really think is was worth the wait. It has 14K on the odo, and is a one owner originally from California and relocated to STL MO. It looked to me that the car may have been sitting for a period of time, due to a few cobwebs around the gas cap! I bought it from FastLane Classic Cars , and I was amazed at the knowledge and great buying experience I had.
This is my very first Corvette and I know very little about what to look for down the road with issues that will arise. Lucky for me we have a strong Corvette Club in the town I live in and a well respected Corvette mechanic that works on the other 2 ZR-1's in town. Two questions: Power steering is whining, and the car "creaks" when I turn the wheels in the garage...any ideas on these? Also I am waiting to drive the car very hard until the mechanic goes over the car well next week...any preventative things that I should do to a car that has such low miles and may have sat for awhile? And how do I tell what number the car is for the production? Thanks jason 93 ArticWhite |

Re: New Owner In Missouri
Welcome to the KOTH world Jason, I think you'll find that driving your Z is addicting when you crank on it.
Re: your questions, since there were only 448 made in '93 check the last 3 digits of your vin# to see what your sequence# was for production that year....check your fluid level on your PS, and as far as the creking noise goes if the car sat a while it could probably use some routine maintenance in the way of fluids and lube....also, a good investment is picking up the '93 svc manuals for the vette(helmsinc.com is a good source for these). You'll also learn a lot by asking questions on this forum, as well as the ZR-1 forum over on the corvette forum. There are a lot of knowledgable folks that really know their stuff (I'm not one of 'em). If you're not wild about doing a lot of wrenching on your beast, make an appointment and take the drive up to Chicago to see Marc Haibeck. He is a highly respected ZR-1 specialist that'll take good care of your baby. (zr1specialist.com) Good luck!

Re: New Owner In Missouri
Hi Jason and welcome to the Registry,
You have great advice from Peaven. I too am a new owner, but I have been waiting for this for 16 years. Never thought I could afford a ZR-1 until recently. Wait until you stick your foot in it. You will be hooked. These cars are just plain fantastic. Live it, Love it, Enjoy it.

Jason! Welcome to the asylum
I would also suggest checking out the NetRegistry site for the "common issues" and the "maintenance" sections. Oh yea....just wait till you get her squared away & put you foot in it! These cars can cure a bad day! Tom

Re: New Owner In Missouri
I hope to meet other Z owners in Missouri as well!! I'll be sure to join the local club and participate in the shows I can get away to. Thats what I'm looking forward to the most , is meeting other Corvette Enthusiasts and learning more about the cars we love.
