I know I don't know the rules. To me on the second pass attempt it sure looked like the 45 car didn't have to pinch the 3 into the wall? I think that if the 45 wanted to block the 3, he should have started sooner? I guess I would have been fired if I was driving the 45. I obviously don't understand the meaning of "just a close racing incident"?
The way I see it, the 45 pinched the 3 and the 3 was able to get by. The 45 pinched the 3 into the wall even after the 3 had at least his front fender past the front fender of the 45. That last pinch is what turned the 3 because the 45 "released" the 3, and that is what spun the 3 across the track?

I don`t know the rules of this type racing either but it looks like the #3 car got what he deserved. Did he not try to pull a dirty Earnhardt tatic and bump the #45 in the curve on the last lap?

check this one out. It is a normal speed vid and then a slow motion vid of the same showing....well you look Rich and decide. I kind of thought that the color guys jumped the gun about the bump in the corner before the pit straight when I was watching on TV. To me it looked like if the 3 was going to do what Dale used to do, the 3 would have not checked up as hard? And I thought that the 45 checked up at the exit to foil the 3's designs? JMHO Tom

You`re right Tom. I missed the #3 car checking up so hard on my first view. Earnhardt would have done it a bit differently. The other car would`nt have had a chance to pin him against the wall like that either.

Hey Rich, I envy your trip to 'dega! I've never been to a plate race. I've been to Pocono and Dover. I've been told that until you've been to a super speedway you haven't seen a cup race. I hope you and your friends have a great time!
I'm a Dale fan.....I didn't like some of the "liberties" that NASCAR used to let him get away with though. He could drive and a same aged Dale I think could keep up with the new stars. Heck, all of those guys can drive. It just seems that the sweet spot on these new cars is so small, if you miss it by a little, you are running 40th! Tom

Granted, there are a lot of things that should have been done differently, but I believe if you ran that race ten times over, they would both finish the race the same way. They are both fierce competitors and race for the win. Bergmeister was remembering back to Sebring 2007 when he lost to the Porsche because he was not as agressive as Melo was. |

Porsche NA version of the race......
Bergmeister, who took over the driving chores from Long for the final stint in his #45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, ran nose-to-tail with the #3 Corvette’s Jan Magnussen for the lead during the last 20 minutes of the race, holding off the more powerful Corvette despite a vibration from a flat-spotted tire. Then, with three laps to go, the Corvette passed the Porsche, but used the pit lane entrance to do it, and the IMSA officials made him tuck back in behind Bergmeister. Then, with two laps to go, Magnussen got by Joerg again, and Bergmeister picks up the story. “He got by me, but he went too far into the corner and put himself out of position, and I was able to retake the lead. This happened one more time during the lap, and I was in front going into the last turn, when he pushed me twice. We bumped a third time coming out of the corner, and he went into the wall and crashed. While I feel badly that Jan crashed, and I was glad to hear that he was okay, I felt we raced hard and fair, and that the entire Flying Lizard team and my co-driver Patrick earned this win,” said Bergmeister after the race.
