Marc Haibeck saved the day!
Last Friday I am cruising up I-270 going up to Carlisle. As I tip into throttle in 5th or 6th gear, I feel drivetrain clunk. At first I suspect bad u-joint - real annoying!
As I exit off at Route 74 I come to a stop and the car stalls out - real strange... I leave Carlisle Friday night in a nasty storm and car stalls out 6-7 time - what the hell is going on?!!! Saturday I as I am driving up to Carlisle same thing happens, drivetrain slap while cruising and motor stalling out. As I come to a stop in neutral, I see tach dropping to 350-400 rpm and stalls at times. Otherwise the motor runs smooth and fine. As I pullin next to ZR1.net registry tent I see Mr. Haibeck peaking under a hood of one of ZR-1s. So, I walk up to him describe symtoms and he offers to take a look under the hood while my car is idling. 30 seconds later he beams and says "I think I found your problem". It turns out my MAP sensor vacuum hose was non factory and as it degraded with oil and heat ar low rev when vacuum built up it was collapsing and causing both sysmtoms I had experienced. I made a quick fix (cut the length to increase the radius of bend) and car drove perfect on the way back home. I would have never figured this one out and would have driven me crazy for God knows how long! Thank you Mr. Haibeck! |

Re: Marc Haibeck saved the day!
Ditto for me regarding Mr. Haibeck!
I think it is a great idea to invite him to any ZR-1 gathering as insurance. I was running the mile shootout in Las Vegas and my car would pull like crazy until about 145 mph then crap out. I thought maybe I was starving for fuel since I new I was low. Mr. Haibeck was at the starting line and said he'd take a look under the hood. As you said, within 30 seconds he said my secondary pump was dead. I came into another pump someone had (that's another story) and he changed it out right there! Car ran fine! |
