2nd Annual US41 Corvette Challenge
One of the many topics at the meeting of the "FBI" last night (over some very good BBQ, btw) was the possible second running of the Corvette Challenge drags, sponsored by Crown Point Corvettes at the US41 drag strip. This was the event attended by only 3 of the FBI gang last year, ending up opening a LOT of eyes as to just what a ZR-1 can do! We had a blast! And, Pete pinned all their ears back and plenty of with runs in his Green Monster ZR-1. Damn, but it would be fun to see some of the big bore monsters like Bob, Al, Kevin, and as many Z's as we can get to show up to blow some doors off!
There are some details to be worked out, and a couple volunteers from the group are going to make contact with CPC and see what we can do to make the event an annual thing. Let's wish 'em luck! P.

Re: 2nd Annual US41 Corvette Challenge
I'll try...
US41 Dragway was the scene of a "first annual" all Corvette Challenge put on by Crown Point Corvette Club (a very active organization, apparently!). Last year I believe it was in October, tho I may be mistaken. Anyway, it was an all Corvette day at the drag strip; the entry fee was $35, if memory serves, and it ran from about 9AM to early afternoon I think (we left around 2). Several clubs and loners came to race in a friendly competition; soft drinks, hotdogs n burgers on the grill - just for fun atmosphere. And, I think all had a good time. last year there was about 70 cars registered for the racing, tho there were a lot more that came just to eat burgers and watch their clubmates and friends "smoke 'em" from the stands. There might not have been many (especially the C5-6ers) that even knew about the ZR-1s when the day began. But! I can assure you a lot knew a little bit more about them by early afternoon!! Man, ya shoulda heard the BEASTS file out of the parking lot last night. The air virtually vibrated with all the horsepower lined up in a row - beasts chomping at their bits, waiting for their chance to sprint into the evening traffic! It was exhilarating!! P.

Jeff Greystone is the President of the CPC club and he sent me an email earlier this week.. He'll be sending a flyer shortly making the official announcement. I posted it both on the registry and the forum as a heads up. Should be hearing soon. |
