I will pulling the injectors out today and replacing them. What is the best method to flush out fuel?

Word of advice... don't forget to remove gas cap to vent the tank pressure. you will have quite a mess otherwise. ask me how I know

I think it is worth while to clean out the fuel rails...I used a carb cleaner (being fuel system friendly) and then compress air to blow out everything. Place the rails on a slight incline with 'B' at the bottom and start shooting in the clean so it runs out at the last injector site (marked 'B') and also make sure you blow starting with the injector seat (marked 'A') closest to fuel rail cross overs and blow downwards away from the cross overs towards 'B'.
Reason I did clean was because there was a brownish residual from the gasoline (some call it varnish) and once cleaned looked like this>> ![]() Also, be careful not to flex/strain the fuel rail cross overs/seats...they do wiggle easily. To depressurize the fuel system in addition to what has been noted (open gas cap) also release pressure at the fuel rail shrader valve. Last edited by ZR1Vette; 08-02-2009 at 05:50 PM. |

I installed new injectors, just to have one misfire due to trash in the rail. It's goos insurance against another pull.

Why not just go ahead and take the thing completely apart,replace O rings at the reg and lines,get a good look at everything.

Well do you do it and at what $$.. yes I agree with the concept of replacing everything but in this case did not thinking it was necessary

Cost is $8.28 for a set of 9 o-rings to do the rail/regulator fuel lines.
It's kind of a PITA to do, but as old as our cars are getting, these soft goods need to be replaced. I don't see the need every time, but if it hasn't been done yet, then I would say it's time. Fuel leaks are bad news and can be dangerous and expensive. I've probably given away 100 sets of fuel block o-rings since starting the gasket business....as a way of saying thanks to customers and because it's a safety item.
