Default Injectors

I'm about to join the rest of the ZR-1 community. I took my 90 out for a spin today and it ran SUPER!!!! Parked it in front of the garage and got back in it 30 minutes later to pull in and it now has a miss and the flywheel is banging. Anything I should check before I start tearing this thing down. I've got Jon's (FIC) injectors, Kurt's upper gasket kit, Jeff's coils. I haven't had any issues with it up until now. When I go in I will replace the injectors and coils, regardless of which has crapped the bed. I guess I need Marc's CD, though. Any advise from the "ones wiser than I would be appreciated".

Jeff

Thanks for the link. BTW, is there a powder coating that looks stock? Might be time to go that route since I'll have it apart.

Jim
Lingenfelter sells (or sold) a rattle can of paint that supposedly was a great match. I seem to recall someone on here is selling a few cans? May want to check the for sale area.

I sold those cans to "ZZZZZR1" a couple of weeks ago.

vettn71,

You asked if there is a powder coating that looks stock. Its all subjective, but that is what I told Jim Van Dorn I wanted but with a little bit more shine. Here is a pic of that color with a clearcoat.

Now you know why I sold the paint cans!

Very Nice! The red wires really pop visually & the polished A/C alum lines look super.

It does look great, but I'm all in the NCRS thing, so whatever I do generates points off, I just don't want to get knocked out of Top Flight territory. Car's not been judged, I've got aftermarket injectors and I don't know how they would be viewed on the judging sheets.

Jim,

New injectors should come with all the o-rings you need EXCEPT for the lower o-ring seal inside the injector housing on the primaries. I recommend these o-rings for replacement bucause they are old and no longer seal as effectively as new ones. Lower o-rings leaking will result in vacuum leaks & idle problems.

A few other things to check while you're under there.

Regarding secondary actuators: If they look like they are installed incorrectly with the arm at an angle, leave them alone as long as the secondaries were working OK before you pulled the plenum. The actuator can be rotated to make the arm straight to the linkage but it will not work as smoothly as before.

Tighten the crankcase breather box bolts. They are probably loose and seeping oil into the valley.

Obtain some silicone grease and use it on all the electrical connection weather seals when you go back together. It is also useful on the plug wires at the coils and a little on the plug boot makes for a better seal and easier to install & remove.

When you replace the coils, remember the silicone grease on the coil base contacts & seals.

Plug wires? I would put in the same category as coils. It takes a plenum pull to replace them. GM replacements are quality and don't cost alot.

You can go deeper if you want, but it requires starter removal to clean the valley and make sure the drain hole is clear.

PS: I can provide all the LT5 gaskets & seals you might need. www.jerrysgaskets.com
