Borla Stingers?
Do anyone have experience with the Borla Stingers? I have a 1990 Z and would like to replace the muffler only with a custom of sorts Borla hybrid. Replacing the factory mufflers with the stingers and that is it. No other change. Ultimate goal is to get the most bang for the buck, I am not convinced that you get much out of a full exhaust system over replacing the factory mufflers alone...
I came to this conclusion after reading Dr. Halibeck's letter on exhaust backpressure in the factory system. http://www.zr1specialist.com/HAT%20W...ckpressure.htm Any thoughts? Does anyone have another suggestion on replacing the mufflers only? any other brands that sell the mufflers alone that would be a good choice for this kind of mod? Thank you all - I am new to the forum but have been reading posts for months. Any advice is more than welcome. |

Re: Borla Stingers?
Hello and welcome to the forum.
Exhaust will make a difference in HP, sound, and appearence depending on what system you buy. Replacing the stock manifolds with headers will make an even bigger difference. Having said that, if you want to just go with mufflers, I'd try to find a set of B&B's as they are one of the best fitting and looking around. |

Re: Borla Stingers?
thank you, glad to be here.
Any idea on how much interior noise could be expected if stock mucfflers were switched out with B&B's? (Stock pipes and resonator still in place) |

Marc's article was about the '93+ exhaust, which has a much less necked-down resonator. I did sort of what you are talking about. I put an LT4 resonator on the car, and 3" Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers. I retained the stock tips for a stock look. The resonance is worse than stock, but better than some systems. And with someone else doing the work, it was 1/2 the price of the SS aftermarket systems cost. If I were to do it over, I'd consider 2.5" mufflers instead, or possibly Super Turbo mufflers. The sound is great but the resonance is a bit strong.

Re: Borla Stingers?
I like the look of the LT1 tps over the stock ones, can they be interchanged without too much fab work?
How do the super turbos compare in flow to the B&B? Do you have a part number on the Ultraflows you used? Last edited by cope05; 03-30-2008 at 11:22 PM. |

Re: Borla Stingers?
LT1 tips should be easy to do because then you just need a single center outlet muffler. There are hundreds to choose from. If you try to use the '90-91 tips then it is harder because they have to have not just dual outlets, but they have to be spaced properly as well.
I'll have to look to find the part# I got. But it wouldn't work with LT1 tips.

Re: Borla Stingers?
Sorry for taking so long. The part # 17519. It wouldn't be the choice for LT1-style tips though as it is a dual-outlet muffler. You can see some pictures here:
