DIY 450-500rwhp?

Recieved a half serious offer on the 67 today..As you guys know one of these cars has to go..

If I got to keep the Z instead of the other I dont think Id be happy with it with just a top end port job, headers, etc.I could be wrong thouhg...Just doesnt seem like enough.. Being as I do my own work, porting, whats the best bang for the buck to get to the power goal Id want. Im not sending it to some overpriced (albeit good, Im sure) tuner, Id be buying my own crank, rods, etc and getting my machine work done locally.

I still have to somehow squeak past smog which shouldnt be a problem unless I get stupid with cams. Is this realistic? I love the shape and the handling of the Z but 345rwhp is boring me to tears.

ron ,i really think that you would be happy with a fully ported 350 .heads inj and plenum. pete, has that pkg and makes between 450 -460 wrhp on stk cams.and you would fly by the smog nazis .give him a shout maybe he can guide you .. petes best time at the strip to date i believe is 11.33@ 124+ mph. that will make the pampers wet

I'm still curious to hear more about the liners used in Frank's build. It seems like instead of a stock-cranked 368, you could have something more like a stock-cranked 390. Seems like that might make the bang for the buck a little better for non-strokers, but perhaps it doesn't work like that.

Might be interested in the 390 Idea, stock crank turned down, right?

I like high revving motors but want a little more torque on this one.

Erm, I've no idea. Frank had Marc build him that 440 that we are all waiting to hear more about. I just did the math based on the liner size and the stock stroke. I've no idea how feasible it is, but it would be neat if it were as easy/cheap as a 368 (not that they are cheap).

I wouldnt mind TTs a bit, but never could afford it. If this came to pass I might have 5k to play with. Between that and the sale of one motor I should be able to come up with something acceptable I would hope.

couldnt one offset grind the crank and get to 390? i am not that knowledgeable on this , but have an offset ground crank in my 68 mustang that brings it to 383.I know its a ford but had it before i found out about the zr1 so be easy on me . ron will call you tonight deb had 2 tough days . she is out of the woods now, it was a little scary for a while though, phew

I think Bob is referring to 4.125 on the bore with 3.66 (stock) stroke. if you turn the crank with that bore you end up with 402 instead.

Frank's is 4.125 x 4.125
