Default Throwout Bearing

I need to replace a throwout bearing in my 1990 ZR1 with only 7,000 miles on it. Is there anything I should be looking out for? Anything I should do while I'm in there? Any help or hints I can get will be much appreciated.

Default Throwout Bearing

What led you to the conclusion you need a TOB with only 7K miles on it?
What are you planning on replacing it with. Be careful of the cheap Chinese junk that will have you doing the job again sooner that you wish. If possible get a TOB that has ?INA 04? in the green portion of the bearing. If it is doesn?t look like this one or no marking, the quality is questionable. This one is a Valeo, but there are several manufacturers that used the quality bearing or sold it as their brand.

Nearly impossible, the TOB are good for over 100000 mls. People often hear some noise from the bearing area...but in 99% it comes from the pilot bearing in the cranksaft (lost of grease).

Thank you both for your quick replies. I'm a 67 year old man that has only dealt with this issue on older vehicles in the past. When I heard the squealing from the clutch being used, it sounded just like a throwout bearing - very loud - never happened before and now I can't get it to repeat itself. I'm not sure what's going on. And, I'll say it again - I MEAN VERY LOUD. Really caught me off guard. Thank you again.

You?re welcome. Just drive it. Probably squealing from lack of use. Trust me when I tell you the worst thing for these cars are for them to sit. Having owned three of them and still working for the military for the past 40 years with constant storage and lack of use, I know these cars just need to be driven and not sitting. Any and all problems I?ve had so far is due to lack of use.

Mine does the same thing occasionally. It almost sounds like the dual disks making the noise. Just drive it!

i had a 95 z with 3k miles on it back in 1999, at first start up that bearing would squeel like a pig for 3 seconds and so would the one timing tensioner rattle like a bitch, usually 94 and 5 cars never have that tensioner rattle that i have heard of..

Mine did that noise - turned out to be the pilot bushing. Had PTS inspect the TO bearing and clutch when I took them out - they were in perfect shape (approximately 20700 miles).. Replaced pilot bushing and noise went away, and no issues since.
If it quit doing it - you may be good. My car has sat a lot in it's life - it's possible mine would have quit making noise as well - but I'm anal with that kind of stuff and just pulled trans and clutch/changed pilot bushing...

I had the squawk noise on cold startup and getting it out the garage for quite a while when I purchased my Z that had little use for quite some time. It will go away. However if it makes noise every time clutch is depressed even after warmed up maybe you do have TB failure.
