Re: GETTING A WHINING IN REVERSE???
i dont know about the zf trans, but most manual trans have straight-cut gears in reverse, hence the whining...i suspect the zf is no exception...

Re: GETTING A WHINING IN REVERSE???
chris...i think they all make a small whining sound, in reverse, mine does.
as long as there is not a clunk or grating sound, i think you are ok. maybe one of the qualified mechanics will jump in here. I'm not. although i did stay in a holiday inn select last night. |

Re: GETTING A WHINING IN REVERSE???
update!!!! it now seems to be doing it in neutral also. i thought it was reverse because i always back the car out of the garage when i first start it, but it seems now to have nothing to do with reverse. its just when i press and let up on the clutch, but it only will do this for about the first 30sec or so and then it stops. as if all the clutch fluid has drained out after sitting and then needs a few seconds to build back up after start???? this only does it after sitting over night or for a longer period. anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: GETTING A WHINING IN REVERSE???
I'm with Jon.....I humbly suggest checking the trans fluid level.
However mine whines in reverse.....and I'm not even married but I got me a G/F. I think any manual trans whines in reverse because of the straight cut gears. I do not believe I've ever heard any whinning in neutral but it does make some noise in neutral because the gears in 1 thru 4 are straight cut...sometimes if you listen closely you will hear the noise from the T/O bering and if you have the Pilot bearing in stead of the pilot bushing you will hear some noise...but usually it's not a whine, not like the whine from reversing. This one makes all kinds of different noises when you put her in reverse and start backing her up...http://www.zr1netregistry.com/forum/...ead.php?t=3317
