Default making it easer to remove 4l8OE trans

I went drag racing on May 15th at Orlando Speed World. Had a great time, but
I could not hold the car when staged at more then 1800-2000 rpm it would
push through the brakes. The the torque convertor is too tight, so I removed
the transmission to remove the torque convertor to have it "loser"(higher
launch rpm 2500-2800 rpm).While that was being done being that the
headers were out of the car I had them modified so I can remover the
transmission without taking the headers off. I just pull the collectors off and
the transmission comes right out. (saves me about 1.5 hours be doing this.

Modified Jeal headers installed with transmission for mock up (no torque
convertor still being serviced).

third and fourth photo driver side











This will make it quicker to remove transmission for service later on if
I need to.

years ago when we were racing my 72 lt-1, i was going thru a clutch about every month during racing season. it was always a pita to get the transmission out of the way to pull the bell housing and clutch. what we ended up doing was to cut the center section out of the transmission support beam and added tubing and bolts to be able to drop that piece and the transmission easily. one time at irp in indianapolis we changed the clutch out between runs.
ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do!
in your case it was the collectors that were cut. that's thinking outside the box.

Update on header mods
last year I had the headers cut and made slip on collectors. Well it
worked good but I could not get the slip on collectors to seal for very
long. Whih caused a lean signal to the ecm ( headers were sucking air
before the O2 sensors). I would have to reseal the collectors about
every 3 -4 months. So checking around I found a water jet company
that could make flanges on the header and collector so they would bolt
together with gasket between them
They did a beautiful job of making flanges so they could bolt together
also made up a dozen gaskets and each gasket is exactly the same
for driver and passenger.

Just finished installing modified Jeal headers with bolt on collectors. ran car
for about 15 min per engineering manufacturer so gaskets seal, then
checked that the 6 stainless steel bolts are tight on both collectors.
Everything checks out good , no leaks o2 sensor are good A/F readings
are in range.
