Hello all,
New to the forum but have been studying up on everything ZR-1. The ZR-1 has been a dream car of mine ever since I was a little kid. It was one of the poster cars of my generation and now I finally have the means to own one. I fondly remember playing The Need for Speed on PlayStation and driving the ZR-1 against Ferrari 512TRs and Lamborghini Diablos. A little about me: I'm a classic and vintage race car mechanic and restorer, specializing in mechanical restoration and metalworking/machining/fabrication. I own a 1968 Chevy Impala 327/4-speed and a Subaru BRZ. For hauling stuff around I've got a Chevy Astro AWD. I realize the 93s are much less common than the 90 and 91s, but I really want the 405 horse LT5 with all of the internal upgrades. I'm not as drawn to the 94s and 95s because I prefer the sawblade wheels and earlier seats. For colors I think the Black Rose Metallic looks absolutely gorgeous, but know they only made 11 for 1993. Second choice is the 40th anniversary edition Ruby Red, and after that I'd take anything except Yellow, and not super excited about white. I'm looking for a great driver, with some miles on it preferably, not a trailer queen with less than a thousand miles. You know what they say, "garage rot never sleeps." Ultimately I want it bone-stock with everything functional. Ok, I guess that about sums it up, glad to have found the ZR-1 Net Registry and the wealth of information contained here! Whoa, I like the green. That's the slightly lighter Polo Green II correct? What's the mileage? Any more pics? I'll be keeping an eye on the white one on ebay as the auction progresses... Looks like it needs an original shifter handle and a good detail, though it's hard to tell from those awful pictures. I wish the seller would have taken a little more time with the posting. I wonder if it's listed elsewhere online. I get a bit weary when there is no discussion of upkeep or parts replaced. Seems things like clutch slaves and anything regarding brake hydraulics would need to be rebuilt/replaced unless the fluid was diligently flushed periodically. |

Just as an aside, I also had a green '95 with less than optimal paint. In about March 2015 I hired professional detailer to do a paint correction for about $450 and boy was it worth it. Two guys workled about 6 hours on the car in my garage (heated) and I was extremely pleased with the results. I don't have any good before pix but here are a couple of afters. I had to first touch up any chips and thepaint correction didn't fix them, but they all but disappeared afterwards. --Bob
