Thumbs up 2007 Gathering West is a GO! - Read UP!

ZR-1 Net Registry Gathering West 2007 (26-30 Sept 2007)

We will have multiple cruises, dinners and so forth…

Accommodations: Room accommodations at the Cannery for September 26-30, 2007. 50 rooms have been reserved at the rate of $59 weekdays and $89 weekend. The rooms will be held until 3 weeks prior to the Gathering. Book yours NOW!

http://www.cannerycasinos.com/hotel.html mention "ZR-1 Gathering" when you make your reservation for our Group Rate. 1.866.999.4899 is the number.

Parking - The Cannery will have a security patrolled parking area for us.

Road Racing: Highly unlikely for this year. Cost at LVMS Outside Road Course is too high and Spring Mountain is already booked.

Drag Racing: There will be drag racing on either Thursday and/or Friday (27/28 Sept) at LVMS either in conjunction with Las Vegas Corvettes or Midnight Mayhem. Last year we showed up early and ran during the “Test-n-Tune” session. That seemed to work OK. One way or another…Drag Racing is ON!

Mile Shootout: The Mile Shootout is ON. It will occur on either Saturday or Sunday (29th or 30th) in conjunction with the SCCA Autocross. Possibly Autocross one day and Mile Shootout the other day. The Las Vegas Ferrari and Lamborghini clubs have been invited to come out and run the Mile Shootout and Autocross events as well. The safety requirements for the Mile Shootout will be enhanced for this year (details to follow).

Car Show: Possibly on base on the weekend as well.

Drifting Demos: Possible event for the weekend.

Jet vs Vette: This is highly likely and we are aiming for two aircraft (F-16/F-15/F-22/A-10???HAHA) to race against.

Tech Session: Jeff Flint and Robert Melbo will be available for Tech Sessions. Possibly Tech Sessions from Marc Haibeck and/or Bill Boudreau as well.

Since I'm moving to Chicago next week maybe I'll hook up with Marc Haibeck for the drive out... Looking forward to it again!

this is too cool. my bday is 9/25 and this would be a good present. too far for me to drive but I'm going to see if I can fly out.

any chance you guys can give the prez a lift in your ZR-1??? I'm dying to do a flying mile. that sound like just too much fun.

thanks for the heads up, I'm going to do my best to make it. time to consult with the CFO

A few thoughts on the mile run:

How bout getting a couple of camera savvy Airmen stationed near the finish line - one with a still camera and the other shooting video. Compile all the pics and video on a DVD and then make it available in the ZR-1 net store for like $20 or so - profits would go to the Airmens fund, charity, or whatever they like. Win win for everyone involved

Lets do some entry forms that list the driver, car, car #, mods, etc so we can publish some results of who did what with what.

Safety: I think we had a pretty good program last year: Helmets, check bearings and lugs, tire condition and pressure. I'm not in favor of doing a Pony Express style deal involving roll bars and harnesses etc based on speed classes. Let face facts, even a stock Z can see 150ish in a mile and there really isn't much difference between a 150mph crash and a 180mph crash - neither is going to be pretty. Also if we start requiring race car stuff we are going to chase a lot of people off. One big thing I'd suggest is marking the finish line better, last year it was pretty hard to spot at over 170mph.

Man this event is sneaking up on me quickly, got to get cracking on the latest Q branch mods.

I agree with Bob on the safety issues for the mile shootout. This is/was a chance for us ZR-1 folks to bring our cars to a "run what ya brung" event, pass a basic safety inspection, and have some fun. Requiring extra equipment like bars and cages changes that into a serious event and requires modifications that some of us are not willing to make.

We didn't have any safety issues last year, so why are we trying to fix what isn't broken?
