Default Ami's Turq Monster dyno'ed

512 HP @ the crank!

Ami's curiosity regarding her ZR-1's HP finally satisfied.

Ami's Z has a history of owners and modifiers before it came to sleep in our garage.

Lots of stuff including: headers, porting (somewhat conservative by "modern" standards), cams, B&B cat-back, SW X-pipe, 3" exhausts, coil-overs, roll cage, diffuser, Hurst shifter, 410 gear, and LED conversion (in progress). But, often asked (usually soon as ppl hear it idle), "How much horsepower does it put out?

Yesterday, with the help of Marc Haibeck and the Dynojet at D&M Corvette, Ami could fill in that blank! On first pull it made 433 HP at the wheels (graph to follow when available), and after some adjustment to the timing, the final pull put the (stock bottom 350 cid LT5) at 435 @ the wheels & (app) 512 hp @ the crank (using 15% power train loss). We all were very pleased, knowing too there may be another 20+ more to be had IF and when the heads are also ported, including along with bringing the rest of the induction to "FBI spec"

The pavement was wet from a passing weather front, so we didn't get to play on the way home (drag radials, ya know...). But, the air WAS a cool 68ยบ and she was feeling very frisky - looking for trouble should we "let the dawgs out"!! Another (dry) day will come.

Now I know who "not" to mess with my Turq. Looks so familiar on the D&M Dyno.

Maybe a good comparison:

In 2014(?) Bob Banks' 510chp/410 geared '95 and my ~ equal (510 chp) with the stock 345 diff went head to head at a WANNAGOFAST 1/2 mile rolling start drag at the Monee Airport's main runway.

The 410 gear launched Bob in front maybe 3-4 lengths by the 1/4 mile mark. But, his Z stopped gaining and the taller (345 diff) gear in my Z began steadily reigning him in.

By the time he crossed the 1/2 mile line, Bob was in the lead, but my Z w/ the 345 gear was still in 4th, and Bob had shifted to 5th. Bob crossed the 1/2 mile ahead by aprox 1 to 1-1/2 lengths, but the gap by that time was shrinking very rapidly.

IIRC, Bob's Z crossed the half mile line at ~138.xx mph, whereas mine crossed the line at 144.25 mph (i.e., like passing a parked car while driving by at 6.25 mph). The stock 345 gear would have prevailed if the race was only a little bit more than 1/2 a mile. But, for comparably powered ZR-1s, it made for an interesting examination.

Paul, thanks for the comparative info. It illustrates much of the stock versus 4:10 rear diff question.

A good analysis Paul. But in my defense, I discovered later after talking with folks that I was shifting way too early and would have been a coupe of MPH faster if I had been shifting closer to 7,000. While I had to shift to 5th in the half mile race, I did like the drivability of the 4.10s around town and on the highway.--Bob
