NCRS judging my 1990 ZR1
I am relatively new to new to judging world. I have a 1990 ZR1 with 5,500 miles and it is all original except for tires and the correct replacement ac Delco Battery. Should I get my car judged? I have few items to fix. Normal stuff from what I am told. Radio and lumber seats. I also have a lot of the console items I think. Any direction would be great on what is needed and how prepare the car. Looking to do this maybe late summer on Long Island NY.
Thanks John #2321 |

With a car as close as yours sounds to being ready, I would not sweat too much. Certainly fix the radio, and if you want the seats as well, as each would be a 25 point deduct on the operations portion. BUT, you likely will not have any other major deductions, so you could simply clean it and go as is, and likely earn a Top Flight. You can lose up to 270 points and still Top Flight! Remember to have and bring a fire extinguisher and an NCRS Decal, and you also get points for miles driven, so you can even lose a few more than 270 and still get your First Flight. Clean, clean, clean, and scotch brite any surface rust off of major items. Remember to drop and clean the spare tire and tub. Find the closest chapter event to you and go for it! You will then have a "punch list" for the next time IF you are unsatisfied with the results of the first attempt. Once you have the 94+, that is when the real disease kicks in, and makes you want a 96,7,8, or 99.9. Above all, HAVE FUN AND ENJOY IT!!! Some of my fondest memories are preparing my cars with my, at the time, very young son. We both remember it well and with enjoyment! Good luck and ask away if you have specific questions. Many here will be happy to help! Marty |

Hey Marty - Thanks for your information. I am sure I will be asking more. I know I need to be an NCRS member but, do I also need to be a local chapter member?

John,
No, you needn't join the local chapter, although it is suggested, but you just have to be a member of NCRS. Marty |

10-4 Thanks. One more question. What is needed in the console and the glove box for judging?

I've got the original front tires off my 1990 #1786. Not sure the value for NCRS.

Re: NCRS judging my 1990 ZR1
Thanks for the offer. I have all the original tires also. Not sure if I am going to change them out for judging process.

If your current tires are properly sized Good Years, I would not change as they are correct service replacement, and therefore only cause a minor deduction. If however, they are not the correct size, or are not Good Year, the deduction would be much greater; Therefore, change them out. Marty |

Re: NCRS judging my 1990 ZR1
I currently have the correct Goodyear replacement tires on the car. Going to leave those on for judging and take the small hit in points.
