The whole C8 thing on CF is focused on the DOHC v OHV thing. As usual, we get the same BS about weight, center of gravity, complexity, repair costs, blah blah blah. That’s why our ZRs don’t appreciate. Its the ignorance of clowns like that.
Show them an SB4 which is BASED on an LS7 block, which is no taller than an LS7, puts out 750hp NA, weighs the same as the “new” LT5, and they STILL deny how u could have a DOHC motor in a Corvette. It absolutely mind boggling. And they argue w u as if that’s going to change what GM powertrain is going to do.

Interestingly, Mercury is also using DOHC architecture for their latest V8 outboard motors. I've got a Mercury Racing 300R (300 HP, 4.6 L) outboard on order and am really excited about adding another "LT5" to the stable! And, amazingly, it weighs about the same as the legacy two stroke V8 that it replaces in Mercury's lineup and runs on regular gas! Can't wait to start playing with this one!

Damn! Who's going to be the first to upgrade to one of these. That's a dream swap for a C4 ZR-1. LS based 427/750hp. four cam, N/A, 8,000rpm screamer.
A competitor to the old John Lingenfelter twin turbo LT5, without turbo lag.

Two questions, Weight?...it's got to be 100lbs. lighter than the LT5, and Price? it's got to be way cheaper than a full bore, balls to the wall, LT5 based stroker.

Downside?...all that 21st Century "tupperware" means our old LT5 is STILL the best looking Chevy motor ever.

I can see Marc offering a "Haibeck 850" package for your tired old C4 Z

Bob,

The SB4 weighs in at 498# dry and is no taller than an LS7, 17” from crank center to top of plenum. The downside is that is uses its own ECM which would not integrate, at least easily, w the CCM. So weight wise its in the ballpark of our LT5. 28k isn’t a small sum of money but holy smoke.

So the argument over at CF about DOHC is that the CG is too high for a sports car. Here's the 4.2L Blackwing by Cadillac and then the "new" LT5(still bugs me they used that moniker for a pushrod motor). Twin cams at the belt line of the motor is too high, but a twin rotor supercharger sitting on TOP of the motor is not apparently in some alternate automotive universe.
