Bilstein FX3 good news... I think
For reasons that escape me at the moment I found myself on the Bilstein website yesterday and noticed that they prominently advertise their rebuilding service out of their Poway, CA facility. Like many, it was my understanding that the OEM FX3 damper rebuilding service and revalving had been discontinued. I used the contact element on the site and asked if there had been any change in status for OEM FX3 dampers. To my surprise I received a reply today stating that the service was indeed available. So I pressed them with a second email to confirm that rebuilding was possible. I received a second email back confirming it was possible with only one caveat, that the strut rod was not rebuildable or available should it be needed but that all else can be done. As I read it even revalving can be done.
For clarification I am attaching the emails below. My shocks are good but I’d be interested if anyone has any luck with this. I know there were a few that have been looking. H

This is great. I lived in Poway until last year and personally talked to them. Good to see their change of position.

Re: Bilstein FX3 good news... I think
Interesting response!
This is a copy of what I received 11-19-18. The same people were on the cc list.--------I also called the North Carolina office and was told the active part numbers are on back order. There aren't any shocks in inventory. I also called Zip Products and was told their FX-3 shocks have been on back order since about February of 2018. I had about decided to do coil-overs, yet it would be nice to keep the car in GM spec and add the Z51/Z07 front and rear springs. More research to do after the Holidays! Best Wishes to ALL Hello, We can rebuild aftermarket parts only. Anything with a Delco label we cannot service. Approx.. Cost to re-build aftermarket $180.00ea Thank you for your inquiry. Re: Bilstein FX3 good news... I think
Bad news for those of us with coilovers.
I contacted them when rebuilding the WC GT car this past summer.... Was 6 - 8 weeks to get an assessment of 'rebuildability' ($170 + price of replacement parts) and then another 4 weeks for the actual rebuild. Not fun when you have coil-overs, and can't simply put a stock shock back in its place temporarily. Fortunately, I had another set cut for coil-overs that I used, else the car would be sitting on the lift for 2 1/2 months with no rear suspension. Regards, Mark
