Michelin PS2 production dates 14 & 18 months ago???
I just ordered a "new" set of PS2's to mount on my factory ZR1 spec A-molds as drivers from Tire rack as I'm saving the period correct gatorbacks/wheels off my recently purchased 91' Z w/ 9,600 miles. I realize ANYTHING is better than the 18 year old gatorbacks....
But, the build dates on these tires are 08/17 for the 275/40/17 fronts and 36/17 for the 335/35/17 rears. I called tire rack on it and they stated those dates were the last production date for the PS2's in that size and no newer build dates existed in their system? I know they aren't race tires ......Thoughts on mounting these year and 1/2 old rears and 14 month old fronts?? |

I would think now they are ok. How long will you keep them on the car? 5 years or so, and they start to get hard.

You should be fine. When I purchased my PS2's from Costco about 5 years ago they would check the build date and rejected anything 2 years or older. Costco reordered 3 times until I had a full set of tires all under 2 years old. Michelin policy is selling up to 3 years from the build date but Costco is 2 years.

Re: Michelin PS2 production dates 14 & 18 months ago???
thanks for the feedback everyone. After my local MB dealer declined to mount & balance them (even though they've done 2 sets of 21" rims for the wifes SUV) I ended up having Purifoy Chevrolet mount balance for me. They sell quite a few vettes and have experience with 335's and 11"+ wide rims.
I'll get them on tomorrow and feel better about driving the car w/o 18 year old tires on it. |
