Side glass scratches
I am getting ready to replace the outside door glass seals on my Z.
There are scratches on the glass on both sides of the car. Is the door seal the only part that rubs against the door glass? Or is there some felt rub pads in there? Or what?

Re: Side glass scratches
When I replaced mine, the only thing that should be touching the glass is the seal edge itself... Is the scratch on the inside or outside surface of the window?
Have they ever been replaced? |

Re: Side glass scratches
On the higher mile Z that I have, I also have side window scratches. This is pretty common if the outside side window seals/sweeps aren't cleaned periodically. This scratching is normally the worst beside and just behind the rear view mirrors. As you know, cleaning can easily be done with the windows down.
There are some felt bumpers on the inside of the window also, which sit in the door shell. These function to help keep the window solid and in place. These normally will never be a problem. As far as replacement side windows, if originality is important to you, I saw something on Pilkington's website where you can get new glass with the reproduction date codes and LOF logo sandblasted onto the glass just like the originals. I do want to have this done for my replacement side windows for my yellow '95. Pilkington Classics is the area of the site to go to. I even bought the original Genuine Chevrolet (or whatever they said) decals off Ebay for the windows. Good luck. Last edited by Meanmyz; 09-19-2018 at 01:39 AM. |
