Slave Cylinder Replacement/Repair
It looks like the slave cylinder in my 1995 failed. I think that the article written in Issue #48 was very helpful. I have already ordered the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder. A few questions:
- The Hydraulic line from Corvette Central (part #534246) is listed as the "Clutch Cylinder hose and pipe assembly" which I would assume is correct. However, the part is also shown as being for an 86-88 Corvette. Is this right? - And given that the part is well over $100 (and the slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder were together about $60), is this something I need? Can I use the old one? - Can I make the repair without jacking the rear? - Probably more questions as I proceed (which will likely have to wait for March given that my garage is not heated) Thanks. bb62 (Mark) |

Re: Slave Cylinder Replacement/Repair
Where did you find clutch master & slave cylinders for $60?

Be sure to use this number (above) for the 91-95 braided CLUTCH CYLINDER LINE. (The number must have change since the article was published, so be sure to use this revised number. [that's my story and I'm sticking toit!]).

Re: Slave Cylinder Replacement/Repair
Just to again clarify what others have said, the 86-88 hose and pipe assembly is the WRONG part for your ZR-1.
Your car requires the steel braided hose (no pipe, no rubber). It is also available from Zip Products if Corvette Central is out. My system shows Corvette America is out of that hose, but other places I am confident stock it as well. Mark is right; Replace all 3 and you likely will not have to go back again. Marty |

Re: Slave Cylinder Replacement/Repair
BTW, I was shipped the '90 line with the steel end sections w/ the rubber mid section instead of the braided line I ordered initially. (In my "profile" I listed mine as a 1990. So, maybe I was second guessed?)
Anywayz... the 90 part was only a little bit of a bitch to snake into place, hence the recommendation to get the braided line. (AND! I used the 91-95 slave on my 90 as well. The bleeder is not on the top like the 90 slave is, but with my wife pumping the clutch while I worked the bleeder valve, purging the air from the slave only took a couple minutes, IIRC.)

Re: Slave Cylinder Replacement/Repair
Thanks guys! I ordered the braided line last night as recommended. I'll keep you posted on the repair progress.
You guys might also be interested to know that the video "The Forgotten King of the Hill" that was posted last year was my car. |
