Before/after paint correction on '94 Polo Green!
I bought my new baby about a month ago, and we finally had a chance to start the paint correction. It's still in progress, but the hood needed the most attention, and I'm really happy with the outcome. Flex/Menzerna is our preferred combo; my husband did a fantastic job (I think he used FG400 and possibly a wool pad on the areas that really needed help). The rest of the car has some light scratches/swirls that I'll work on soon.
The Polo Green looks so deep and dark now; I really love it. It even looked good enough to have a little photoshoot with a much younger ZR1 cousin which belongs to a friend of ours |

The Polo Green looks awesome!
Could you tell us exactly what products were used? Maybe a vid on technique? Polishing a car is something I shy away from due to lack of experience. It would help a lot if I could see the process in action. Last edited by Flyman 27; 05-24-2017 at 10:27 AM. |

Our polisher is a Flex 3401. Griot's, Rupes, and Adam's offer some good polishers, too. A few years ago, I learned how to polish using Meguiar's 105/205 polishes, which work well but are a bit difficult to work with in high humidity. Nowadays our preferred polish brand is Menzerna. Products used (pad and compound/polish) really depend on the car, and perhaps even the particular area you're working on. My car's paint was in pretty terrible shape, especially the hood, so we had to go for a pretty aggressive combination there (wool pad + Menzerna FG400, one of the most aggressive polishes they offer). The FG400 was followed up with one of their mid-range polishes and then their Power Lock sealant. For lighter scratches/swirls, especially with our paint being 20 years old, I would definitely suggest a less aggressive polish whenever possible. My husband and I actually just launched a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC3...-ThCjQJL3no0XQ ) yesterday, where we'll document our car adventures (many of them involving Corvettes), and we'll include plenty of detailing/polishing videos. In fact, I still need to polish the ZR-1's doors and fenders, so I'll be sure to do a video of the process. Since we don't have a polishing video yet, I'll point you in the direction of my detailing idols, Obsessed Garage and Ammo NYC. Both of these channels have complete coverage of detailing EVERY part of a car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJlFqc0yLNM https://www.youtube.com/user/AMMONYCdotcom/videos Hope this helps! Happy to help anytime. |
