Any tips on changing coolant in LT5 ?
Had my car for about a year and a half now and i think its time to change the coolant......It looks very good but do not know the last time it was done.
When it comes to flushing out my coolant system on my 73 I basically open the petcock screw and drain it out......I then take a garden hose with the motor off and just run it through with the petcock screw still off........I then turn the car on and leave the garden hose running in the radiator for about ten minutes..By that time, and sooner the water is coming out nice and clean,I park it near a drain so all the water coming out is not getting all over the place... My heat on my 73 vette is disconnected, never bothered to hook it up when i swapped out the motor.......I know your supposed to Ii believe turn the heat on high while your flushing the system, but i cant do that.. I then close the petcock and fill with half distilled water and half antifreeze... I take it for a spin and let it heat up....When i turn car off i let it cool than check the level and add appropriately....I do this a few times... Next question...Can i do this with the LT5 motor? My heat does work in the car so is there a different way to flush and fill the LT5 ? Of course I will be using standard green coolant which i picked up at Napa and distilled water.. Any tips on doing this? Thank you..... Last edited by Vette73; 03-25-2016 at 08:05 PM. Reason: SPELLING |
