#8 Spark Plug - Removing AC Panel for more room
This isn't my idea, but I ran across it last night, it helped me, I haven't seen it mentioned often so I thought I'd share a picture.
It is held on by five 7mm screws. 1/4" drive 7mm socket with some extensions works well, and a 7mm open end wrench. They all unscrew easily. Unplug the two electrical connections. Takes 10 min or less to remove and then access to the #8 plug hole is as easy as the front plugs. To help not drop screws when reinstalling, taping the screw to the socket helped. Thanks to WeGone for this tip (and he said it was from a Killebrew class). The last picture shows a tie wrap taped to the socket because my magnet was too weak to pull it out of the hole (before I removed the panel, when I was using the dual universals). The extra access was useful because I wanted to run a thread chaser through the #8 plug hole. Last edited by RussMcB; 03-08-2016 at 12:39 AM. |

same thing happened to me at Corvettes @Carlisle on the way home from the Sat night dinner. wow, what a weird sound. thought I had blown at HG in my case the car must have backed off the plug and been running like that for a while. threads had to be chased. Dr. Phil was my hero and ran me around in his 402 (what a nice car!) and helped me get the LSV back to Alex Va with zero drama. check that #8!!! I now check the torq on the plugs when installing and go back after a few heat cycles to make sure all is well.
