Owning multiple Corvettes - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

I am vacillating with the idea of adding another Corvette to my garage. I want my next one to be a convertible and I am interested in by order of preference:

1. 68-72 Big block four speed
2. 96 LT4 six speed
3. C5 six speed.

Any of you own one of these models along with your ZR-1?

I really like the early C3s but the thought of owning two "classic" cars kind of scares me. I think the LT4 might be too close to my Z in driving experience. The C5 I really just threw in there because they are so relatively cheap right now.

I would love to hear your thoughts experiences with these models.

Why? I have a 99 six speed 427 and a 69 four speed 383. 150,000 on the 99 and the 69 likely has 250,000. Dependability? On the important stuff about equal. On the little stuff more goes wrong on the 69. Attracting attention? 69 hands down. Road trip, 99 more much practical. I have more problems finding parts for the 99. The 69 is very much a do it yourself car. I do not race, but when the suspension and steering are tight, the 69 is fun. Easily could be a daily driver if you do not need Bluetooth or a cup holder. 99s are not much money. But watch the mileage. Repairs add up very quickly on the 99. The 69 is inexpensive to maintain. Big blocks are heavy in front and have a different personality from the small block. Drive both just to make sure. Also AC. The C3's get very hot inside. George

I currently have two in the garage ... 1990 black ZR-1 and 2002 black ZO6. I drive each as often as possible to local events, Bowling Green, Carlisle, and especially in the mountains of north Georgia, NC, and TN.

Had a C5 put 165k miles on it great road car, Had a 96 CE LT4 great car sold it and the C5 to by a second ZR-1 if that tells you anything, also have an 82 CE as I love the body style of a C3 and will always own one.

80-82 one of my favorite body styles. I had an 80 L-82 and a 81 4-speed. Too me one of the ultimate Corvettes would be a 1980 yellow,tan cloth interior L-82 with painted tops and the T-top carrier option. Sorry about the hijack.

I had a supercharged c5 while I had my zr1. the c5 is very comfortable and has great ac. it can be driven daily without any issues. it is nice going on long trips. the older vettes are not as user friendly. i have had many c3's and they are much harsher as far as comfort and ride go. I have never had a c3, which I have had 3 of them, have good air conditioning especially big blocks. My 1971 big block was a show winner but no matter what I would replace it always would run hot with the ac on and the ac was never really cold. I replaced the entire system on my 1969 and it never really blew cold compared with modern cars. I also replaced the entire ac on my 1976 and insulated the cabin and it was ok but not on real not days in south florida so as far as ac goes dont waste your money on ac systems in c3's. I did once ride in a 1978 pace car and the ac did work good but when the car stopped at red lights the temperature would start climbing up and up.

the c5 had a supercharger and a 3 core radiator and that always blew ice cold and never got hot even in south florida. a great car.

Have owned a 73 convertible for the last 13 years....Always wanted a C3 convertible...

It's nice having different generations of Corvettes.....I would go with the C3 instead of another C4 if I were you......Easy to maintain and definate definate head turners..Torque monsters if you find a nice big block..
