Hi all,

I just had my 1992 instrument panel repaired and wanted to share the results.

Before: The LCD was terribly faded and I could barely make out the letters & numbers. It took a lot of the enjoyment out of the drive.

After: Wow! What a difference (even with my horrible photography lol)

A big shout out to Bryan Thompson at http://batee.com for the great work! $299 to replace the polarizing film, replace LCD connector, install a new set of bulbs, and repair a wiring harness connector. I highly recommend his service.

Hello John,
I assume he had to remove the instrument panel, if so did he also have to remove the dash pad?
I had remove my pad in order to put thoes two nuts in the rear of the instrument panel.

Hi Nelson,

I'm in FL and Bryan is in MO so I had a local shop R&R the IP. They charged $273. If you look on Bryan's site he has video's for pulling panels for 84-89...he's still working on a 90-96 video.

I'm all thumbs when it comes to electronics, otherwise I would have tried to pull it myself!

I pulled the cluster on my 90, and the dash pad was not involved.

Hey - try to explain further what you needed to do. I've had my '90 cluster out several times and I'm not aware of anything that secures the cluster from the rear. It's been a long time but I thought all was from the front, remove the tilt lever, lower the column, after removing the center duct, some console trim etc.

I had a short in the steering column and melted some of the wires. I had to rewire from the column to behind the cluster. I had to remove the cluster and the dash pad so I could follow the end of the wire in order to replace. Maybe it was part of the structure that supports the cluster that had the two bolts that were hard to get to. On my 93 it was very difficult to reinstall the dash pad. I think I have pictures somewhere of the install of the pad I see if I can find them.
