Default block corrosion

So this showed up on ebay. I've never seen a used block that had that much corrosion, in fact, most have virtually none. So what were they doing wrong?

I would guess in an un-heated, un-cooled, non insulated storage in a high humidity and maybe even salt air environment.

If this is Kurt's block, that FL salt air will do that to aluminum in short order.

Most of the corrosion appears to have happened while the engine was assembled. So I doubt it was sitting in a shed or yard. Just curious as I've never seen one that corroded. The one I'm rebuilding now had 113,000 and virtually no corrosion.

Must have laid around for some time with the iron liners still in it.
Probably would have faired better with the original aluminum liners.
