Default Help with possible ZR1 purchase

VIN: 1g1yz23j9l5802880 Fellow members at Corvetteforum.com suggested this site to help me out. I have owned 7 C4's since 1999 including an LT4. Currently looking at my first ZR1. 1990 I stumbled onto at car gurus and then craigslist Augusta GA. Magnetic Red with 27,000 miles, third owner sell after 10 years of ownership. Car is in Aiken, SC, just does not appear to me to be a 27,000 miles car and the asking price is $15,999. Anyone have any knowledge of this ZR1? Any help will be appreciated. Here is an email I got from the seller --
"I am 3rd owner. I have owned the car for 10 years. Car runs like a dream! I have original sticker, video and books that came with the car. In those 10 years, I have put 8,000 miles on it. I replaced the alternator, front calipers, rotors and pads, wheel bearings all around, catalytic converters had been removed before I bought it so I replaced them as was required by MD motor vehicle (where I lived at the time). When I bought it, it did not have original wheels. I replaced them with black chrome 93 style C4 wheels. I recently replaced antifreeze and thermostat as well as oil and filter. I used K&N oil and air filters and mobile 1 synthetic oil. There are is a small bubble (approx. quarter size) in the paint over the right headlight. There is an area where paint is chipped in the same area where the light goes up and down. There is a chip (which was repaired but still visible) in the windshield. Interior is in excellent condition. there is some wear in the carpet where you rest your left foot while driving. Other than that, inside is like new. I feel the low price more than makes up for any blemishes. You can call me atwith any questions. Thanks. Steve" Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hope someone out there knows this ZR1

Sounds pretty good to me (but I'm a newbie ZR-1 owner myself, no expert).

The C4 wheels throws up a little red flag. You will definitely want your ZR-1 to have 11" wheels on back, and the proper offset. I'd shop around for wheels, then use that knowledge to bargain down the price.

The correct name for the color of 1990 #2880 is Dark Red. My records do not have any entries concerning this car. The car was delivered with two tops, and it looks like they are still there.

The wheels in the pictures on CarGurus.com are 1994/1995 ZR-1 style with black chrome finish, not 1993 C4 style. I agree with Russ's comment about making sure the wheels are the correct width and offset.

Good luck with your search for a ZR-1.

Jim

Default Add at least $3K to your purchase price...

for the balance of updates needed (from your narrative). Injectors are a must-do. Your A/C likely needs to be converted to the newer standard. You may have the leaky header bolt issue, and likely you'll need to rebuild your amps and perhaps the CD drive unit. I would advise looking up Dynomite's awesome contributions to this Registry and CF, to get complete accurate information.
Hope it works out for you...

This one is on the site: http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24701

Not mine and I know nothing about it - just didn't know if you were "forum savvy" and saw it under the "ZR-1's and Parts For Sale" section..
