Tip of the hat to Tony Davilla on cutouts
I owe Tony Davilla a tip of the hat for the inspiration to relocate my cutouts. I had Marc Haibeck’s standard installation which eliminated my spare tire carrier. But I like keeping my spare with me and I like keeping the car’s appearance fairly stock. After seeing pictures of Tony’s manual cutouts right up against the muffler I decided to investigate putting my electric ones there. Needed to make sure there was enough clearance space there for the motor and the turndowns that I like. I dummied up a wooden and PVC pipe mockup of the cutouts and sure enough there was enough room. So when WARP TEN was at Marc’s for an oil change this week I had him relocate them and reinstall the tire carrier. Looks great and they work just the same as before. So if anyone is thinking of cutouts but is hesitating because they want to keep the spare tire carrier, this is the way to do it. Here are some pictures:

Nice job. At first I thought that will be loud, but the cats and resonator should do a good job of simply making the exhaust note more authoritative. Sort of like muffler eliminator kits with an on/off switch.
I'm starting to wonder what would sound like if I had internally pipe-modded my stock mufflers instead of my SW units. |

When I am, say, drag racing or just want to scare small animals and set off car alarms, I open the cutouts and it sounds like straight pipes--which it is. Very loud. I run normally with the cutouts about one third open and close them when I come into our subdivision so my wife doesn't complain. Some would say it is not a smooth mellow sound but I like it and especially like the ability to be quiet when I want. And of course with the stock system there is no drone from resonance.--Bob

That looks good and thanks for the credit, yeah I didn't want to give up my spare tire also due to I like driving to BG. I'll be up at BG next year with my Z if anyone wants to check out my system. I will most likely do the same mod to my Grand Sport because it is super loud all the time. No substitute for the quietness of the factory mufflers. I will use electric cutouts on my GS.

You've done it again, Bob - and thanks to Tony as well. I am delivering my car to Marc this week for winter overhaul (510 pkg with Corsa and SW headers). I was hesitating on cutouts for same reason as you guys. I like this fix.
