New Catch Can upgrade

The WGF 1/2 mile was a fun event. unfortunately, I did only one run.
On the way to a second run, we noticed OIL from the motor which later turned out to be an Oil Pressure Sending Unit located on the passenger side of the motor in a "godforsaken spot" not accessible by humans. So I went to see Mr. Polatsidis for super Human hands. I'm sure it's a talent developed from "working" w farm animals for so many years.
Anyway, I decided to install a more "proper" catch can instead of the chincy LS-1
type I bought off eBay. I don't have the AIR pump so that spot turns out to be a good location for the catch can. Actually it's an Air Oil Separator. No baffles or steel wool accumulator.

Looks like a good spot. Mine is a Moroso (to be installed). And, I have been eying that spot too.

I like the in/out arrangement of your unit. The Moroso is more of a "T" configuration. It is going to require some extra adaptation so in and out are from one direction like your unit.

Took just a bit of proper fitting but it works. The one thing about the placement is any interference w the headlight mechanism as it swings on/off. Need to position the can low enough to be out of the way. That's why I routed the lines under the frame rail and back up. Actually the D1 is an Air Oil Separator. Does not have baffling or use accumulator material. It relies on oil being heavier than air and dropping out of suspension when it gets to the can. That's also a cooler spots so hot oil cools off traveling thru lines and entering can. There's a sight gauge on the side indicating amount of oil in can helping to decide when to empty it. With the amount of oil I saw under the passenger side IH, I thought it was time to upgrade and suspected part of the problem was crankcase ventilation. One thing I did do w this unit was to make a gasket for the top. Didn't trust the white sealer they had on there, and the last thing I want is a huge vacuum leak. So gasket material and a bit of Permatex 2A.
And yes, it was the oil pressure unit on passenger side. When Pete pulled the connector, oil came streaming out. On his lift, we had a chance to TRY cleaning the undercarriage. Still some drips even now however.

The black/red wiring you see lead to a ballast for my HID fog lights.

I had my previous can in that spot but it was pretty small. With a 92, you have the ASR unit to contend with.

Yep...I am aware of that.......I only have 90s and a 91.

I also moved the main cable cluster going forward on drivers side under the Top A-Arm which cleans up the area above the Top A-Arm and gives more room in that area.

I built mine and placed two on both sides of the frame. Works like a charm, it is baffled and filtered. No more oil into the intake.

Does the air flow go from the back of the plenum to the front where the throttle body is or vice versa?

Back to Front (from PCV valves to Plenum Vacuum) where the Throttle Body is.......

The Intake on the Oil Catch Can is on the top and the Exhaust is on the side.



This Purge Connection is on a 91' having the Charcoal Canister
on the passenger side behind the rear tire. The 90' Purge
Connection comes straight out and is connected to the Charcoal
Canister located under the drivers side Headlight.
