Spare Tire Alternatives
With the Z06 rear brakes now installed, I decided to see if the stock spare would fit. AH not really. The Nitto Invos are not RFs, so been looking for some alternative to the stock spare that would fit over the 6 and 4 piston Z06 calipers. Somebody does sell a spare that will work but its priced at $900.
Basically a chopped and narrowed version of an 18" C6 wheel w rubber. Been looking for the CTS-V spare which is supposed to fit w a spacer but these are difficult to come by. BMWs have a similar issue and I have heard that the emergency tire kit for BMW, made by Continental, is supposed to work pretty well. If its a puncture this should work well. A sidewall blowout is another story. Anyway, cheaper to just call roaddside and tow on the if/come that its needed. I have attached pics of the kit for anyone else looking for a spare. Pretty reasonably priced at $55 off fleabay.

Re: Spare Tire Alternatives
No spare = AAA Gold. They will tow you up to 150 miles anywhere. Request a flatbed too.

Re: Spare Tire Alternatives
Originally purchased for a jeep, I have found this repair plug kit by Safety-Seal to be invaluable. Repaired more car tires with it than anything. usually use it after pulling a nail and use the to to insert the plug rope. Never had to re-balance a tire after either.
The $45 kit is what I have along with a harbor freight 12v air compressor and a can of fix-a-flat. Threw away the red box and put all of the kit in a small zipper bag. http://www.safetyseal.com/ Last edited by mike100; 04-29-2014 at 09:03 PM. |

The genuine article is over-built, but works great. If anything, I would suggest to buy their (safety seal brand) plugs as I'm certain they are superior. ON EDIT- the USA one plugs much bigger holes by the look of it. Last edited by mike100; 04-29-2014 at 10:00 PM. |

Bigger or faster? There is an almost member that claims "faster". Ah but how far can you pee? Now THAT would be useful. Seriously the best thing about AAA is their phone app. Just a few button presses and bingo. They are on their way!
