Default Not a big deal but one of the Z pleasures

This is such a minor thing but goes a little further just to say how much I enjoy the ZR-1 in many ways. Some are pretty small things and far from drag strips, road racing, 140 mph runs, etc.

Tomorrow is Saturday and the afternoon should be nice enough and sunny and I am going to drive the car kitty corner across metropolitan Richmond, Va. from my surrounding county, Chesterfield where I live, to Mike and Ruth's in their county, Goochland, and show them the car. Ruth is actually the "speed freak" in the family and drives her own manny tranny car. Old friends and Mike owns his own investment firm and is a high school golf coach while Ruth is a retired teacher, church choir director with two daughters now out of college and not living at home.

We've known each other since probably 1982 or so through a common church and have other mutual friends that go way back. They all seem to understand my liking fast cars better than slow women in my age group five years after becoming a widower. They all knew and appreciated Karen, my wife of 40 years as well as the candidates in the interim, none of whom passed enough of the tests.

Last time I brought a Vette over it was the '76 which is also bright red and Ruth demanded I let her drive it around their area alone and with five others there watching I gave in. She's the only person I've ever let drive one of my Vettes and I don't actually intend to let her drive this one at all but will give each of them a ride if they like. There's no way I'm handing the keys to the choir director with that much power and speed!

None the less, this little drive Saturday is a tiny thing, but it is a very pleasant thing for me to do with the car, one of many, and when I got it they immediately said: "bring it over, we want to see the newest toy."

Tomorrow, Saturday, they will and I will enjoy each of the 90 miles over and back and giving them rides. Nothing like messing around with a fast car, especially a Z. We'll probably put three digits on the speedo in the process weather and conditions permitting.

Don't want the Z to think she's not appreciated.

Now you can see how much of a speed freak Ruth really is. The Z will be a good test.

Great day with Mike and Ruth and some other west end friends and visiting and rides in the Z. My old boss turns 80 today and he got in, rode around with me and enjoyed it. Ruth and Mike's two post college daughters were home and Ruth was totally involved with them so she looked at the car but it ended up with Mike riding with me. We zipped onto the interstate and ran it briefly up through three digits then went on a country 45 mph twisty two lane road at 75 and 85 where safe and enjoyed a cool but sunny day.

Nice day for a quiet set of Z uses. I am not fond of it when kids with some kind of POS Asian car they've put a gutted muffler on comes next to the car and tries to make you think they are hot stuff. I usually just blip it a little or ignore them entirely.

They aren't hot stuff though there are some cars which have surprising power. The Z tends to attract them though I don't think they have a clue what the "ZR-1" emlem means. Lots of Mustangs out there with twin exhausts who think they are BAD too. A few with 500 + hp are but most are more about thinking they are and driving 75 in a 60 zone..that's about it. I have seen some Saleen Mustangs and they are quick unless you have a 415 LT5
