Water Pump Hose Replacement - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Need some help from all you guys who may have done this already - advice about replacing the water pump hose. Before I drain all the coolant to replace this hose, it appears the only way to reach it is to remove the thermostat housing. Its very tight and I cannot get my hand in there. Are there other parts to remove to make access easier??? Hate to ask but I've spent about 2 hours reaching in from all angles and cannot seem to get it. Thanks for all your help. PS - I did search the archives of the CM and the and the service manual. No luck.

I feel stupid.

Don't feel that way....the engineers are laughing at all of us on this one! That is a vexing hose to do....Aurora40 did his, you may want to hit him up for the skinny.

I was doing my Samco kit and by the time I got to that hose I was quite shot mentally....I made it a bit of a project, I was doing the oil lines, rad r&r to clean out the debris, coolant flush, t-stat r&r, and the hoses....needless to say I gave up as to me it looked to be more than I wanted to do at the end of the day...I was thinking bad thoughts by the time I got to that hose, so I stopped.

Cutting it out had crossed my mind...I just didn't see an easy way to get the clamp pliars on it...the ones with the long hdl & long steel line which should have made it a snap

Definitely get the remote hoseclamp tool like Tom mentioned. At least that way getting the clamps on and off is easy. The hose itself is a pain. I cut the ends on mine in order to get it off, there's just no good way to reach it and wiggle it off otherwise.

I think you'll need to both unscrew the thermostat housing as well as remove the upper coolant hoses in front of the engine in order to reach it. I also removed the serpentine belt and the tensioner pulley.

I'd suggest just doing the whole hose kit if you are going to bother trying to change that one.

Thanks for the assistance. Sounds like it is tuff but can be done once the thermostat housing and other hoses are out of the way. You are correct, will likely replace all hoses - may button up until next winter.
