Default How many miles per quart of oil?

Thought it would be interesting to see what others are experiencing, far as oil consumption goes. I've heard and read where the LT5 is prone to using more oil than say SBCs, but if so, how much?

Please take the poll, and if you would, post up what has been done to your motor and how much spirited driving you will admit too!

Should be interesting.

NOTE: TYPO! THE BOTTOM CHOICE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE UNDER 1000. Please treat as under 1000 miles. (unable to edit the poll...a long time gripe with this software...)

Currently I've done headers and exhaust. Lost the cats. Installed a M.H. chip.
When I answered the poll, I'm just about 2000 miles, so I answered 2-3000.
Spirited driving? Oh-yeah. Usually sees a buck or better every time she comes out. I love the skinny pedal.

Paul, because you know how, how about a survey on miles per oil change? -Steve

Oh, BTW, I'm driving a MY90, so no exhaust valve seals. I ASSUME this contributes to oil consumption.

8,500 mile 1991 ZR-1 has not used any motor oil in the past 5,000 miles, since oil change. Motor Stock, 10-30 Mobil 1 High Miles. Hard driving seldom, except for 2 recent autocrosses. Nowhere around Baltimore to safely explore ZR1 limits without going to jail.

Really depends on how I drive it of course. At the track I'll use a quart in 20 miles

Okay, I voted "under 1000". I can make one quart vanish in an afternoon on a new O & F change.....all I need to do is stay above 3k rpms and never get to 5th gear; certainly never, ever get to 6th gear.

Bone Stock 90 LT5 with Marc's mail order EPROM.
Oil: M1 10w-30 full synthetic in the silver bottle w/silver cap.
Filter: it don't seem to matter whose I use, oil consumption is the same.

Okay, now for normal driving....I leave NYC, drive to BG and back and she will need a quart of oil. Usually that round trip is about 2200 miles. That's also on a fresh oil & filter change. Only thing is, I am fairly sure after driving with Jingles on a check ride I need to add some oil. JMHO on a 90 LT5 oil consumption maybe more a function of coolant temp and rpm. JMHO

Tom
Try adding one or two qts of 10w40 to lower consuption.
Works on my mostly stock 90. Remember we don't need no stinking exhaust valve seals. We have a true British influenced design.
Leaks/burns oil.

Thanks Scott for the tip! I like your thought on the British influence! LOL Bravo! The way my motor behaves I almost think it likes the oil level to be at the "add" mark. The burn/use rate is waaay slower when it gets down to that point. However, I hardly ever get to 6th, and 5th rarely in normal driving unless it's early or very later and the roads are empty. JMHO, the higher the rpms, the higher the coolant temp, the higher the oil temp; the faster that hash area qt burns/is used up! I don't mind checking the oil before start up.

It's occurred to me. And yet at normal driving at 60mph it's 1000-2000 range. I figure it's all lack of seals. She's got 92k miles.
I should have added I was using 0W30 on last track day. Mistake.
Haibeck is bound to see me one day though.
