Who all has gotten theirs painted? I took mine to a local, recommended (on CF), body shop. It'll be $130 to get it painted. That does include a lot of prep work, though, they wanted to sand and prime it prior to painting.
What did it cost other people? I wonder if the sanding is necessary, though there are some bumpy spots on it. It's not a big deal and I'll be happy as long as it comes back well done. I was just wondering what other people had paid for this. Also, anyone have any pictures of theirs? I can't wait to get it back and installed, it sure is cool looking! |

I also got my ZR1 plate a few years ago. Seem to remember it cost about $50 to paint (black) but it has definitely suffered from road rash more than the surrounding bumper. Poor pain job? Bad quality paint? Need for clear coat? It was waxed just like the rest of the car.
Maybe I should drive slower. ![]() |

It is made from hard fiberglass unlike your bumper that is made out of a rubber compound (urethane) not sure on the spelling..small rocks nick the paint as it does not flex..Mine is the same will need a repaint soon.

When I had mine painted It cost me $60 in New York at the local bodyshop. No particular speciality shop either. They just read the code from the center arm rest. Very well done and a perfect match to the dark metallic red. You could not tell it was and after market add on. I was very pleased. I would say $130 is high.

$130 sounds a bit steep to me as well. I had mine painted when I had to have the car repainted. But I can't see it costing over $75 to paint.
Here is mine with the ZR-1 in black: ![]() Last edited by BiZ; 05-19-2006 at 11:59 AM. |

Well, they did a nice job of it. It's all primered in black on the back. And the little bumps in the corners of the lettering is gone. It looks nice.
It was a bit of a pain to drill, and it's wider than the original plate and sticks out a little from the bumper. But it looks nice. I'll have to think about painting the lettering black. I wasn't sure if I'd want it that way or not, and figured it'd be easier to paint it black if I did, then to paint it red if I didn't. ![]() to ![]() |
