Default Fuel Sender Pump R&R

To any or all:

Is it, as it states in the FSM, really necessary to drain the fuel tank from a ZR-1 to remove and replace this unit? I bought one from Jerry's Gaskets because the car has been cranking longer and longer as time goes by and it has 110,172 miles on it. I'm in the middle of a huge round of upgrades and replacements (starter, suspension, brakes etc.). It's in my garage on jack stands with a full fuel tank, and over 100" of snow so far this year so I can't run it dry. I don't have a container large enough to hold the fuel. Anyone done it with fuel in the tank?
Rich

Absolutely not required to drain the tank! The only problem with having fuel in the tank, is that when the pump assembly is removed, there's a big opening through which fuel vapor can exit, potentially filling your garage or shop with fumes.

Thanks, I'll be sure to ventilate while it's out. From your next post, the fuel filter is scheduled to be replaced before startup, along with a fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment.
Again, thanks for the info.

Also, be sure to change your fuel filter at the same time.
