For the Hayabusa's they make an aftermarket setup that tell you what gear your in.
Would it work on the zr? I'm just curious . Does the vette have something in the ecm that tell's what gear its in? heres a lnk on the aftermarket part http://boostbysmith.com/giprods.html |

How about looking at the shifter?

I suppose if someone were to be particularly interested in the idea, some sort of sensor could be adapted to the shifter assembly, to trigger an indicator. Seems to me to be more trouble than it's worth, in any event. After putting some miles on the car it's usually pretty obvious which gear it's in. |

Couldn't help myself. However, I wouldn't equate a shift light with a gear indicator. Depending on electronics, lag on tach can be significant.

My VW (recently sold to buy something more entertaining) could calculate the gear and would display it about 1/2 sec after you let the clutch out as it did the rpm vs vehicle speed calcs.

The ECM does calculate and store a variable named "NV Ratio". It uses this value to make decisions related to CAGS functionality. It would be possible to add code that could calculate what gear the car is in and either output it in the datastream or light indicators via unused ECM discrete outputs. Personally, I don't see a need for it, but it could be done.

Actually, the EBL ECM uses NV ratio to modify WOT timing based on which gear. You'd like more advance in lower gears due to time to RPM. So less advance or lower slope in 3rd and 4th gears. |

Thanks for the info. I haven't played around with the EBL setup very much. I'll take note of that. Maybe the ZR-1 code can be modified to add that functionality. Jep |
