Dreaded Fuel Pump Failure (I think...)
Here's the symptoms:
Cold start runs like a champ until she warms up. After reaching temp she won't rev over idle and then eventually stalls. I think it's the dreaded fuel pump failure. Are there any temp fixes to bring her home? Any other possibilities? Cheers, RH

Re: Dreaded Fuel Pump Failure (I think...)
Swap out the 2 pumps inside the tank.
If the secondary pump might still have some life in her,at least enough to get you home. or If you don't have tools. get a thick gage wire and hot wire the fuel pumps test plug on the main harness under the hood to the battery. Just make sure you unplug it everytime you shut her down. Pete

What Pete said primary fuel pump failure once it goes out of factory loop it dies. Swap em to verify. Also while you are there dont forget to replace the fuel filter on the passenger door rail side.

Jump/swapping wires at the plug at the top of the tank C450, the grey and DK GRN/Wht would make the #2 pump run, or take the aux fuse out of #2 on the passenger side and jumper there, but that's hard to get to for seeing the right wire to jump.

Re: Dreaded Fuel Pump Failure (I think...)
I've been working the past few days and haven't had time to do any testing. I was able to get the driver that dropped her at the terminal to drop it at my house so she's home... I'll take a closer look this weekend. Also, I'm sure I can look it up but does anyone know the GM Suburban numbers I need to replace these with?
Thanks, Ron |

Re: Dreaded Fuel Pump Failure (I think...)
Pretty sure this is it.
1996 2500 Chevy Suburban 7.4L and 1995 Corvette LT1 use same pump. If you look up 1995 ZR-1 it shows the pumps AC Delco #19180770 X 2 http://rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php As you know you will need 2 of them. Pete

Re: Dreaded Fuel Pump Failure (I think...)
So is there any rhyme or reason that a pump fails?
My 90 has 65K and as far as I know the pumps are still original, but yet Toyvet had to replace his pumps on a 23K mile 90 a few years back. Maybe I need to do it for piece of mind

My theory is a lot of folks race our cars on the track (Yeah duh) but to save a few pounds very little gas is normally in the car as it heads down the track. I think this adds to the premature pump failure issue. Ownership may be a big factor. More heat load on the pump and with less fuel in the tanks its sucking up all the nasties in the tank which ='s failure. just my thoughts as a possible reason.
